Biography
Dr. Sonia Belliappa was raised in Northern New Jersey. She completed her undergraduate education at The College of New Jersey, and then went on to graduate from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School as part of an accelerated 7 Year BS/MD Program. In her junior year of medical school she was awarded membership in Alpha Omega Alpha.
After completing an internal medicine internship at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester, Dr. Belliappa underwent her ophthalmology residency training at New York University. She then pursued a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Emory Eye Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Belliappa sought employment in the Northeast in order to be closer to family and friends. She joined Ramapo Ophthalmology Associates in the summer of 2014. Dr. Belliappa performs a number of ophthalmologic procedures, including cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK), pterygium surgery, and corneal transplant surgery (penetrating keratoplasty and Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty).
Dr. Belliappa looks forward to serving the wonderful people of the Rockland County area as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Cornea Specialist, and providing quality, compassionate eye care.
