Joshua M. Gould, D.O. is a board certified ophthalmologist providing comprehensive and compassionate eye care. He is a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist. Dr. Gould provides complete eye care with careful attention to each patient’s particular needs. As a glaucoma specialist he is an expert in medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma as well as cataract surgery.
Dr. Gould is a cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton, with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he ranked 1st in his graduating class and received membership in the national medical honor society. Dr. Gould served his ophthalmology residency at the highly respected North Shore University Hospital / NYU School of Medicine in New York. He served a Fellowship in glaucoma at Tufts University – New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston in Boston Massachusetts.
Dr. Gould co-authored a chapter on lens related glaucoma in the major textbook Albert & Jakobiec’s Principles & Practice of Ophthalmology, 3rd Edition.
Dr. Gould is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. His hospital affiliations include Clara Maass Medical Center, part of the Barnabas Health System, Essex Specialized Surgical Institute and Hackensack University Medical Center at Mountainside.
Dr. Gould performs state of the art no-stitch cataract surgery using advanced technology intraocular lenses;laser cataract surgery using the femtosecond laser; glaucoma surgery as well as many laser procedures for glaucoma including SLT.
Dr. Gould performs traditional glaucoma surgery such as trabeculectomy and tube shunts as well as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). He is one of a few glaucoma specialists statewide to be certified in trabectome surgery. This is a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery that improves the natural fluid drainage of the eye. Dr. Gould also performs iStent glaucoma surgery. Implanted at the time of cataract surgery, the iStent is a tiny tube placed in the eye’s natural drain to help reduce eye pressure in patients with glaucoma.
